Biography
Byung Jun Cho, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at Westfield State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany (SUNY), and a B.S. in Police Administration from Dong-guk University, South Korea. Since joining Westfield State University in 2009, he has taught and developed diverse undergraduate and graduate courses in criminological theory, research methods, statistics, and crime prevention. His scholarship focuses on researching criminological theories, quantitative research methodology, crime prevention, and institutional corrections. He has also served as a policy advisory consultant for the Ministry of Justice in South Korea and holds leadership roles in international academic associations, including the Korean Society of Criminology in America (KOSCA).

Areas of Research
Dr. Cho’s research interests center on testing criminological theories, crime prevention and control, quantitative research methods, and institutional corrections. His scholarship has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Criminal Justice and Behavior, International Journal of Criminology and Sociological Theory, Korean Journal of Criminology, Korean Journal of Correction Review, and Korean Journal of Public Safety and Criminal Justice, alongside edited books and government policy reports.

Dr. Cho maintains active memberships in professional organizations including the American Society of Criminology (ASC), the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the Korean Society of Correctional Service, and the Korean Criminological Association.
